Programmatic Accreditation

Programmatic accreditation is a qualitative evaluation conducted at the level of a single academic programme to verify the quality of its design, implementation and learning outcomes against recognized local or international standards.

Types of Programmatic Accreditation

National Accreditation

Granted by the Quality Assurance and Academic Accreditation Directorate at the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education in accordance with the national academic programme standards.

International Accreditation

  • ABET: for engineering and computer-science programmes
  • AACSB: for business school programmes
  • ASIIN: for science, engineering, informatics and mathematics programmes
  • ACPE / WFME: for pharmacy and medical programmes
  • EUR-ACE: for engineering programmes in the European area

Accreditation Stages

  1. Self-Assessment: the programme prepares a detailed self-study report against the standards
  2. External Visit: a team of independent experts visits and evaluates the programme
  3. Final Report: the team submits its findings together with recommendations
  4. Decision: the accrediting body issues its decision (full accreditation, conditional, or denial)
  5. Follow-up: periodic monitoring to verify continued compliance

Role of the Department

The Quality Assurance Department supports colleges and academic departments in preparing programmatic accreditation files, provides the necessary guidance and training, and coordinates with local and international accrediting bodies.
